Leg Machines

Leg machines take up more floor space and carry more steel than anything else in a gym, which is why they hold their value so well on the pre-owned market. A well-built plate-loaded leg press or hack squat from a commercial manufacturer is designed for years of heavy daily use, and the frame rarely wears out. What does wear are bearings, carriage rollers, upholstery and safety catches, and those are exactly the parts we inspect and replace.

This collection covers plate-loaded presses and squat machines alongside selectorized extensions, curls and seated presses.

Buying guide

Before you buy leg machines

  1. Measure the footprint and the route in. A 45° leg press can be well over two metres long and arrives in large sections.
  2. Check how many plates the machine needs. Plate-loaded leg machines often need a large stock of Olympic plates to be useful for strong members.
  3. Ask for photos of the sled carriage, the rails and the safety stops on any used leg press or hack squat.
  4. For home gyms, a selectorized seated leg press or a compact leg extension/curl gives far more use per square metre than a full plate-loaded sled.
