Overview

Seated calf raises load the calves with the knees bent, which shifts more of the work onto the soleus, the deeper calf muscle, than standing calf raises do. A dedicated seated calf machine is one of the most dependably used pieces in a bodybuilding gym.

Plates load onto a horn close to the knee pad. On a pre-owned unit we check the pivot, the knee-pad upholstery and the grip surface of the toe platform, and we test the safety stop.
